Covid-19

Location: 9th row by the sidewalk.

Installed: Dec. 2021

The COVID-19 pandemic marked a chapter in DePaul University’s history.  Flexibility and resilience of faculty, staff, and students of DePaul is shown throughout the mural.  The pillars depict a variety of scenes that were inspired by the COVID-19 pandemic.  Both Brother Mark and his Students painted, collaged, or screen-printed healthcare workers, e-learning, and personal experiences, such as discovering new hobbies and their lives during quarantine.

The dreariness that was experienced throughout the pandemic is implied by the gloomy skies that descend in the background of the mural.  These scenes are not only a part of DePaul’s history, but also Chicago’s history, and what the population as a whole experienced during the COVID-19 pandemic.
