About Me

Hola!  My name is Sam Lauer.  I am a dedicated sustainable strategist with 10 + years working in environmental education and community engagement.  Several years ago, I made the decision to pursue a graduate degree and subsequently enrolled in the Kellstadt Graduate School of Business at DePaul University in Chicago, IL.

In June 2019, I graduated with a M.S. in Sustainable Management. I also earned a graduate certificate in Geographic Information Systems (GIS).  Recently, I moved to Portland, Oregon.  I am now actively looking for a GIS-related career.  Below you can find a brief synopsis of my background in GIS as well as my motivation to learn this program within the context of my overall future goals.

The GIS certificate included four graduate level courses that worked primarily within the Esri ArcGIS Desktop Suite, e.g. ArcMap, ArcToolbox, ArcCatalog, ArcGIS Online, and ArcGIS Enterprise. These courses utilized both vector and raster data within such tools as spatial analysis, data management, network analysis, raster calculator, story maps, and more!

I have always been deeply interested in the intersection and relationship between human development and its impact on the environment and natural world.  GIS is the perfect tool to pursue this study.  I look forward to utilizing GIS to help build a more sustainable future that benefits both humans and our natural environment.
