The story map will provide a narrative of why urban agriculture can be an important part of sustainable development in the Chicago area. The various slides are meant to show where vacant lots are located in relation to food deserts along with socioeconomic factors and business opportunities, including access to public transit. The intended function of this story map is to educate users about what challenges North Lawndale is facing within the community along with why local food systems can benefit the community. It will show the locations of vacant lots within the community which can be helpful in understanding potential sites for future agricultural projects, demographic information such as numbers of SNAP recipients in the various block groups of North Lawndale, and the locations of different restaurants and transit stops in the surrounding neighborhood to show potential market opportunities. Users can interact with the story map simply through clicking on the different headers and making their way through the various slides contained within the story map. They can also zoom in and out of the different maps.
