Lets celebrate our own TTS Alumni Betsy Smith (BFA-2012 Lighting Design) for getting a new job! They are now the Lighting Supervisor at Indiana University’s Department of Theatre, Drama, and Contemporary Dance!

Elizabeth holds a B.F.A in Lighting Design from The Theatre School at DePaul University.

She joins IU off a successful season at American Players Theatre where she is the Master Electrician for the Touchstone Theatre.  Prior to IU she was the Assistant Master Electrician at Indiana Repertory Theatre for five seasons and held multiple lighting positions at Utah Shakespeare Festival across two seasons. Elizabeth also spent several years as a freelance electrician in Chicago before moving to Indiana, working at theatres across the city including Chicago Shakespeare Theater, Court Theatre, and Steppenwolf.

Karen Sheridan (MFA 1986 Acting) is in the cast & is playing “Esther” in the premiere production of Eric Coble’s The Hat Box. Karen’s been an actor, director and teacher for many years in Michigan, Chicago and beyond. She’s worked with the exceptional Williamston Theatre playing Betty in Chapatti, Sarah Bernhardt in Memoir, Williamina Fleming in Silent Sky, Hannah in The Safe House and various radicals in 900 Miles to International Falls. Karen performed outdoors as Dogberry in Much Ado About Nothing with the new Fenton Shakespeare Festival in 2021. Here’s to all the storytellers—professional and otherwise—makin’ it back. TEDxDePaulUniversity is an independently run, self-organized event.

One of our current students Isaiah Z. Boozer (BFA Playwriting) speaks at the event on May 4th 2022. His talk comments on intergenerational homophobia & how the black community has gotten to the point that it has.
