Weekly Meetings: The Student Sustainability Committee

Every Thursday from 4:30-6pm

The Student Sustainability Committee (SSC) is an independent group of diverse students with a passion for Sustainability, social, and environmental justice and that will work alongside the Just DePaul team and the President’s Sustainability Committee to 1) think about and implement solutions that DePaul University can make to further and develop the sustainable efforts on campus, 2) increase awareness around ethical, sustainable choices and solutions within the student body of environmental issues on both a local and global scale, 3) to amplify active efforts at DePaul and student voices for social and environmental justice.

Sustainability Network Weaving
February 21st 2024 | 4:30-6:00 PM

​​In our Sustainability Network Weaving meeting, our focus will be on food waste issues at DePaul and around Chicagoland. This discussion will include talk about single-use plastics and food waste in universities. We will be meeting directly with representatives from Chartwells and the Seton Food Kitchen. LPSC 220

Winter Network Weaving Event
January 30th 2024 | 11:30-1:00 PM

We will discuss Chicago migration, connect our DePaul community, share/combine resources, and make a plan with actionable steps. LPSC 314A

Chicago Coalition for the Homeless: Teach-In

The Chicago Coalition For The Homeless is coming to host a teach-in about homelessness in Chicagoland. LPSC Room 314A

Just DePaul’s Migration Network Weaving Event
November 6, 2023 | 10 – 11:30am

At this event, we want to connect various parts of our DePaul community, share/combine resources, and make a plan with actionable steps on how to assist migrant families, and communities, and increase our effectiveness together. Lincoln Park Student Center Room 314A.

The Intersection of Nonviolence and Care for Creation Series

Hosted by multiple organizations, this virtual series seeks to connect Catholic Universities globally, engaging in critical weekly discussions. Every Monday from 6:00-7:30pm online.

Laudato Si’ Camping Retreat
October 13-15, 2023 | 4PM

Hosted by Catholic Campus Ministry, this camping retreat goes to Camp Reinberg in Palatine, IL. There, students will reflect on the Laudato Si part two, hear from Fr. Memo Campuzano, and connect to nature.

Environments of Disquiet: A DePaul Humanities Center Talk

Just DePaul’s Sustainability Celebration
October 24, 2023 | 3:30-6:30PM

Hosted by Just DePaul, this is a celebration to honor sustainability and learn more about what we can do to be more sustainable in our community. With tables featuring games, sustainable information, and prizes.

Sustainability Faculty Learning Community
August 31 – September 1, 2023

We invite DePaul faculty to join us in helping the university build a sustainable curriculum while enhancing their teaching and engagement with environmental and interconnected economic and social justice issues. You can do so by participating in our Faculty Sustainability Learning Community.  The workshop will explore how we can integrate broadly defined sustainability into our classrooms.

The Hale Sustainability Conference
April 25, 2023 (9AM – 3PM)

The 2nd annual Hale Sustainability Conference will feature tables from both internal and external organizations, student speakers, and expert panels. Panelists discussed a wide variety of sustainable initiatives.

Just DePaul Sustainability Network Weaving Event
February 1, 2023 (6-8PM)

Engage with and share ideas about sustainability during our winter networking weaving event. Featuring Chicago-area college and university sustainability leaders, we’ll together consider “What Must Be Done?” in building a sustainable lifestyle for DePaul and beyond.

Sustainability Town Hall: Designing The Future
October 26, 2022 (6-8PM)

Hosted by the President’s Sustainability Committee and Just DePaul of the Division of Mission and Ministry. All students, staff, faculty, alumni, and community partners will come to build a community for like-minded sustainability efforts. They also will discuss previous and present-day sustainability efforts on campus.
