Welcome to Innovation Day

Robert L. Manuel, President

In my first few months at DePaul, I immediately recognized the depth of knowledge and talent that exists in our faculty. Your ideas energize me, and I’m ready to turn those concepts into action. At this year’s Innovation Day, I challenge you to explore how to best connect with your DePaul colleagues and entities in Chicago to take your research to the next level. Think about how you can transform DePaul, live our mission, and address the pressing issues of our day. Be bold. Be DePaul.

“What Must be Done?” is the Vincentian question that permeates every aspect of the University and that we all try to answer individually and collectively. The Fourth Innovation Day helps answer the question by bringing a creative spirit to research, partnerships and ultimately solutions. Addressing societal problems through featured demonstrations, presentations, and panels, Innovation Day will highlight the synergies between imagination and technology, ideas and implementation, and ways to disseminate outcomes and discoveries. A heartfelt welcome to all of our attendees and heartfelt thank you for all who collaborated to bring us together to help answer the Vincentian question.

Organizing Committee

It is with the greatest pleasure that we welcome you to the Fourth Annual DePaul Innovation Day. We hope that you will find the meeting informative and helpful in the following ways: sharing ideas and best practices for innovations and collaborations, learning about new initiatives, networking and community building.

Beyond an opportunity to learn about innovative initiatives at DePaul, the Innovation Day is designed to encourage more individuals to turn their ideas into projects.  DePaul community members will come together to present research, discuss perspectives on innovation, and make connections across disciplines. The President and the Provost will open the day with remarks, and the day will feature presentations and panels that will highlight the synergies between creative activities and technology, moving industry innovations from ideas to implementation, and exploring new ways to disseminate outcomes and discoveries. New for this year is the Innovation Showcase. Presenters will demonstrate how their creative innovations are meeting industry and societal needs. This will be done in an open forum in which attendees can visit a variety of innovation booths and then vote on the “Most Innovative Award”.

We wish to thank the presenters and staff for all the hard work to make the 2023 DePaul Innovation Day a success. We especially wish to thank Provost Salma Ghanem for all her advice, encouragement, and shared vision for innovation at DePaul. We also thank the Office of Academic Events for the support in streamlining the meeting logistics.

Please do not hesitate to let us know how we can help make this meeting even more successful and productive.

Sincerely,
The Innovation Day Organizing Committee
