Apply to be a SUD Graduate Assistant 2022-2023

The Sustainable Urban Development Program is accepting applications for two graduate assistant positions.  Each position requires a 10-hour week commitment and will entail working closely with SUD faculty.  Each successful candidate receives a $4000 stipend and a tuition waiver for 16 credit hours to be used during the 2022-2023 academic year. Candidates must be current SUD students.

1. Graduate Assistant – GIS Position

Position Description:

The Sustainable Urban Development Program is pleased to be able to offer a graduate assistant position for the 2022-2023 academic year. This position will support the teaching staff for the SUD GIS sequence: GEO 441/GEO 442. The GA will work with the relevant GIS instructor(s) during the Autumn, Winter, and Spring quarter for 10 hours each week during the three quarters.

Primary duties are to help or tutor students enrolled in GEO 441/GEO 442. The GA is required to (a) participate in a class either in person or virtually depending course modalities; (b) hold weekly office hours; and (c) help students trouble-shoot issues with using GIS software in consultation with GIS instructor(s) as needed.

The successful candidate receives a $4000 stipend and a tuition waiver for 16 credit hours.

Required qualifications are (a) the successful completion of GEO 441 (or its equivalent) and GEO 442 (or its equivalent) and (b) the demonstrated proficiency in introductory and intermediate ArcGIS Pro skills. Exceptions can be made to applicants with substantial experiences that are relevant to performing primary duties.

2.  Graduate Research Assistant Position

Position Description:

The Sustainable Urban Development Program is pleased to be able to offer a graduate assistant position for the 2022-2023 academic year. This graduate assistant will work with Dr. Michelle Stuhlmacher to write a systematic literature review on the impacts of urban green space composition and configuration. The position will require 10 hours of commitment each week duriAPpng the academic year.

The graduate assistant will work with Dr. Stuhlmacher to read through academic articles to determine their relevancy to the systematic review. Then, the findings from the articles will be summarized in an academic article. Successful completion of the project will result in co-authorship on the article.
