Sioban Albiol

Sioban Albiol currently serves as co-director and steering committee member of the DePaul Migration Collaborative.  She is director of the DePaul College of Law Asylum and Immigration Law Clinic Director and Professor of Legal Practice. In the Clinic, Prof. Albiol teaches and supervises students representing migrants before the US Department of Homeland Security and the Department of Justice. She has taught generations of law students, many of whom practice in the area of migration. She oversees the Legal Resources Project which provides training and technical assistance to dozens of Illinois immigrant-serving community-based organizations in an effort to increase 

migrant access to justice. In 2015, Prof. Albiol co-founded the Translator and Interpreter Corps at DePaul to address language barriers faced by migrants in accessing information and benefits to protect their rights. Prof. Albiol has represented migrants and worked with advocacy organizations for nearly thirty years. She previously served in various capacities at the organization now known as the National Immigrant Justice Center.  She also worked as an attorney for Prairie State Legal Services serving the Spanish-speaking community and providing assistance in housing, public benefits and consumer matters. She has chaired both the Chicago Chapter of the American Immigration Lawyers Association and the Chicago Bar Association Immigration Law Committee. Most recently, she was appointed to the Illinois Task Force on Counsel in Immigration Proceedings. She has taught Immigration Law as an adjunct at Northwestern Pritzker School of Law. She received her BA from the University of Texas at Austin and her JD from Loyola University Chicago School of Law.
