Robin Burke
Robin Burke is Professor of Computer Science in DePaul’s School of Computing. As well as co-director of the Web Intelligence Laboratory, he is a member of DePaul’s interdisciplinary Data Mining and Predictive Analytics Center. He is the author of more than 50 peer-reviewed articles in various areas of artificial intelligence including recommender systems, data mining, and text processing. His work has received support from the National Science Foundation and the MacArthur Foundation, among others. His most recent research explores the application of heterogeneous network models to large-scale recommendation and analytics problems and the application of utility-theoretic representations to multistakeholder and fairness-aware recommendation.
Bamshad Mobasher
Dr. Bamshad Mobasher is a professor of Computer Science at DePaul University’s College of Computing and Digital Media in Chicago. He is also the co-founder and the director of the Center for Data Mining and Predictive Analytics at DePaul University. He received his Ph.D. in Computer Science at Iowa State University in 1994. His general research areas include artificial intelligence and data mining. In particular, he is considered one of the leading authorities in Web mining, Web personalization, and recommender systems. He has published 5 edited books and approximately 200 scientific articles. As the director of the Web Intelligence, he directs research in these areas and regularly works with the industry on various joint projects.

Jonathan Gemmell
Jonathan F. Gemmell is an Assistant Professor in the School of Computing at DePaul University. He holds a BA in Classics, an MS in Computer Science and a PhD in Computer Science. His research focuses on the social web, data analysis and artificial intelligence. He has published dozens of articles in international peer-reviewed conferences and journals. His previous business experience includes trading foreign currency derivatives on the floor of the Chicago Mercantile Exchange and managing a trading and investment group.
PhD Students
Himan Abdollahpouri
Himan is a PhD student at the Web Intelligence Lab at DePaul University working on recommender systems and data mining algorithms. In particular, he is developing methods to optimize the recommendations with respect to different objectives either from one or multiple stakeholders’ perspective. He received his MSc in artificial intelligence from Iran University of Science and Technology (IUST) and his BSc in computer engineering from Bu-Ali Sina University. Prior to joining DePaul, he was a senior software engineer at TOSAN, the most leading company in the banking industry in Iran. He also worked as a research intern at Pandora Media Inc. in the U.S. working on developing recommendation algorithms that can optimize multiple objectives while serving music to users. He has several peer-reviewed articles in top conferences in recommender systems such as UMAP and RecSys.
Masoud Mansoury
Masoud Mansoury is a PhD student at the Web Intelligence Lab at Depaul University in Chicago, USA. His current research interests include recommender systems, social network analysis, and customer behavior analysis. Masoud Mansoury received his Master degree in Electronic Commerce from Amirkabir University of Technology in 2010 and his Bachelor degree in Information Technology from Mazandaran University of Science and Technology in 2012. During 2010-2016, he worked on different domains such as social networks, big data analysis in banking industry, e-commerce systems, and personalization and recommender systems.
Nasim Sonboli
Nasim Sonboli is a Ph.D. student, majoring in Computer and Information Sciences under the supervision of Dr. Robin Burke and a research assistant in Web Intelligence Lab. at DePaul University. She received her Master’s degree in Predictive Analytics with a focus on Computational Methods from DePaul University in June 2016. She had previously been a tutor at the CDM Tutoring Center, for two years, helping students with Python, R, SQL and Statistics. Her research interests include fairness-aware recommender systems, evolutional changes in user behavior, machine learning, and data mining.

Aldo Ordoñez-Gauger
Aldo Ordoñez-Gauger is an undergraduate student at DePaul University pursuing a BS in Computer Science. He joined the Web Intelligence Lab as an Undergraduate Research Assistant to Robin Burke in the 2017. He aims to enter DePaul’s Combined Degree program to pursue a MS in Computer Science with a focus in Data Science. Aldo co-authored his first peer-reviewed publication on fairness-aware recommender systems this year, presented at the FATREC workshop.
