Welcome to our Vincentians in Action (VIA) Reflection Toolkit! We hope this resource is helpful to those engaged in direct service and community engagement at DePaul University, in the Vincentian family, and beyond. Here you’ll find Vincentian quotes, interfaith prayers, community builders, guided reflections, and more.
Vincentians in Action understand the importance of reflecting together in community. DePaul students echo an essential VIA insight: “Service without reflection is just work – just another task.”
The core pillars of VIA – unpacked in reflections throughout the year – are as follows:
Way of Awareness
Seeking to understand systems, communities, and people, including ourselves.
Way of Dialogue
Authentic, relational conversation about our experiences and perspectives as one wrestles with root causes of injustice.
Way of Solidarity
Accompaniment and unity with a community that is in struggle for its own liberation as we move from me to we.
Spirituality
Each person’s interior experience of something greater than ourselves, expressed and shared through religious and non-religious communities, prayer, or other reflective practices.
Justice & Collective Liberation
Centering the dignity and rights of every person, understanding that our struggles are connected, and working together to create a world in which everyone can flourish.
Intentional Community
Building deep and sustaining relationships with one another, toward a common purpose of care and interconnectedness.
Vincentian Heritage & Living Legacy
Centering the wisdom and example of St. Vincent de Paul, St. Louise de Marillac, and the Vincentian family throughout the world today.
