Joe Mantegna honored with honorary Chicago street naming

JOE MANTEGNA (BFA, Acting, ’69), who currently stars in Criminal Minds on CBS, will get the southeast corner of Hudson and Armitage avenues in Chicago named after him today. It will be designated Honorary Joe Mantegna Way. Joe once lived in the building at this corner. Congrats, Joe!

Ike Holter wins Windham-Campbell Prize

IKE HOLTER (BFA, Playwriting, ’07) is one of eight recipients of the 2017 Windham-Campbell Prizes.  The award, presented by Yale University, recognized literary achievement or promise. Recipients receive a $165,000 individual prize to support their writing. Congrats, Ike!

Tarell McCraney’s ‘Moonlight’ Profiled in the New York Times

Writer TARELL McCRANEY (BFA, Acting, ’03) and director Barry Jenkins are profiled in the New York Times about their film Moonlight, hailed as one of the year’s best films.

“Though he’d never written a screenplay, Mr. McCraney knew this story was meant to be a movie. He named it “In Moonlight Black Boys Look Blue,” and then it sat for nearly 10 years, until a mutual friend from the Miami drama scene emailed the script to Mr. Jenkins. The friend couldn’t believe the paths of the men had not yet crossed.”
