Sebastian Moreno

With multiple internships, certifications and prestigious scholarships, Sebastian Moreno has made the most of his time at DePaul and is ready to start his career after graduation as a full-time analyst in Microsoft’s Finance Rotation Program.
Currently, Sebastian is a Private Equity Intern at Larix Capital Partners. He works with the Managing Partners to better understand and evaluate companies against their competitors—specifically within healthcare.
“I was very interested in the private equity space and at first enrolled in a class about it but decided that there was no better learning experience than actually going out and doing it so I immediately unenrolled in the class and started looking for opportunities in this space,” he says.
Sebastian was looking for opportunities on Handshake and LinkedIn when he found this one, and the interview process included completing a project and presenting it to the managing partners.

Sebastian transferred to DePaul because of the great financial aid opportunities and the benefits of being located in Chicago. Since transferring, he has found another benefit of being at DePaul: the widespread alumni network. Sebastian was able to connect with alumni at his past internships at Deloitte and Microsoft.
“The ‘negative stigma’ often associated with being a transfer student really pushed me to become more motivated and take advantage of any opportunities I came across,” he says. “Rest assured to any transfer students that DePaul is by far one of the most transfer friendly schools in the nation in my opinion.”

Sebastian has made sure to take advantage of any of the opportunities he can as a DePaul student, including things like early identification programs for banks that led him to making new connections in the industry and joining the Keeley Center Academy.
“Without the support of fellow students at the Keeley Center Academy—some of my current best friends—and professors—some of my now most trusted mentors—I have no doubt that I wouldn’t be where I am today,” Sebastian says.
He has also utilized Career Center services such as resume review, mock interviewing, career advising and attending multiple career fairs.
While completing his degree, Sebastian has been awarded multiple honors for his hard work including the DePaul University Faculty/Staff Scholarship awarded to only ten students annually and being named one of 1,000 students on the 2019 Forbes Under 30 Scholars list.
“DePaul’s flexible schedule has allowed me to pursue programs like the Forbes Under 30 scholars and the Driehaus Investment Competition as well as dedicate time applying to scholarships,” he says. “I’ve been able to further my education and career aspirations because of DePaul. I also couldn’t be more grateful to the generous donors that have made programs and scholarships for students possible.”
From his internship experiences and his education, Sebastian has learned that it’s important to challenge yourself, and that while it’s alright being a know-it-all, being a learn-it-all will help you more in the long run.
“I want to tell any student out there that your worth is not measured by your GPA or how expensive your tie is,” Sebastian says. “If you’re motivated and take advantage of the opportunities DePaul and the city of Chicago have to offer, you’ll go far!”
