Camille Johnson

By Victoria Williams
Originally from St. Paul Minnesota, Camille Johnson was captivated by the city of Chicago and the diversity she found on DePaul’s campus. After learning more about the College of Communication’s Public Relations and Advertising program, she knew DePaul was her perfect fit!
Shortly after starting classes, Camille became interested in the African and Black Diaspora Studies minor offered at DePaul. After taking a few classes she loved, she decided to add ABD as a minor.
During her undergraduate career at DePaul, she was involved in the Black Student Union and served as Vice President her junior year. Established in 1968, BSU was the first and is the largest Black student organization on campus at DePaul University. The three pillars of the Black Student Union are Community, Advocacy, and Resource. These pillars tie to DePaul’s Vincentian values of Advocacy for the Poor, Compassionate Service, and Respect. Camille’s mission was to ensure events advocated for the benefits of higher learning, and also advocated for better understanding of the unique struggles students of color may face.
