Teodora “Tea” Preradovic

For Tea Preradovic, working remotely for The Creative Process was a challenge. Initially, she found it hard to understand instructions when given remotely, but Tea was eventually able to learn how to work independently and have more autonomy over her work.
As an associate podcast producer and interviewer, Tea’s job was to listen to, edit and provide insights on the interviews conducted by The Creative Process with creative figures like artists, writers and actors.
With no hard deadlines and the organization’s founder, Mia Funk, located in Paris, it was mostly up to Tea to keep herself on task. At the same time, Tea was taking a communications course, which she said helped teach her how to hold herself accountable for her work. She also found it helpful that Mia was always available to quickly answer questions over messenger despite the time difference.
“This internship supplemented my education because it gave me a place to apply my communication skills in a creative space that is trying to promote the importance of creative education and application for students,” she says.

Because of the autonomy in the work she was doing, Tea learned to thrive in an independent work environment and develop skills like learning new programs and systems with little oversight.

“This internship supplemented my education because it gave me a place to apply my communication skills in a creative space that is trying to promote the importance of creative education and application for students.”

Though she made this situation and workplace experience work for her, Tea is looking for something with a little more structure and oversight in the future.
“Although I believe the skill of autonomy and independence is important in a work environment, I’ve found instruction to be important for my successful execution,” Tea says. “I’m torn between looking for instructional and disciplined positions for comfort and looking for autonomous positions that can help me further improve this aspect of my work ethic.”
Since this internship with The Creative Process was unpaid, Tea applied for and received the Career Center’s Internship Plus award and received financial support.
”If it weren’t for my Internship Plus award, I would not have been able to accomplish as much as I had, considering I would’ve spent more time working in order to save for tuition and loans,” Tea says.
Tea started at The Creative Process as someone working on the podcasts, but during her last month, she was also made a creative works curator. She curated animations of The Creative Process’ subjects in order to encourage more engagement on the organization’s social media pages. She also crafted social media posts to encourage their audience to submit their own creative work.
“My internship experience has encouraged me to explore opportunities in media and content creation, in addition to podcasting,” she says. “I look forward to utilizing and further developing my skills and experiences within media creation.”
