Jessica Zalewski’s road to earning her Ph.D. started at DePaul University. Jessica took an introduction to Industrial/Organizational Psychology course her sophomore year and started doing research with a professor in the Psychology Department. Immediately, she knew it was for her.
Jessica also became extremely involved on campus as an External Director of DemonTHON, worked as a Resident Advisor, Chicago Quarter Mentor, Service Immersion Leader, and a Peer Career Advisor in the Career Center. The Career Center was influential in developing Jessica’s professional skills.

“The Career Center provided me with a multitude of resources to not only strengthen applications, but also prepare for interviews and professional networking,” Jessica says. “I was lucky enough to work in the Career Center for two years, so I also had the opportunity to see how the services and resources they provide help support students at DePaul as a whole.”

Jessica is a graduating senior in the College of Science and Health. This fall, she will begin pursuing a Ph.D. at Wayne State University in Industrial/Organizational Psychology with the hope of making workplaces more equitable.
In recent months, she’s conducted research on gender stratification in the workplace, and would like to expand that to focus on race, ability status, and other elements of one’s identity and how it impacts their access to upward mobility in an organization.
