Lab 5 Hotpots analysis for the 2016 Sexual Assault Crime data

From the map of the 2016 Sexual Assault Crime of Chicago, the sexual assault incidents congregated mostly in the downtown area and the Garfield park area in Chicago. As more green dots cluster around River North, Loop and Garfield Park neighborhood, the hotspots indicates more red-color spots in those areas, which reveals the level of sexual assault crimes in those areas is higher than other areas in Chicago. Besides, the light red, or the “blush” color, of a polygon near the southwest to the Loop, where shows the 5-minute drive time area away from DePaul Loop campus, has an overlapped portion with the darker red hotspot zone. The scenario of the overlapping features tells us that the area of the most sexual assault crimes happened within 5-min drive distance from the Loop campus. For the safety of DePaul student, especially the Loop campus located in the dark red hotspot zone, students should have higher consciousness to their surroundings when walking alone on the street in the Loop area.
