Kamila, Class of 2020
Kamila is a student majoring in marketing in the Driehaus College of Business. She is from Roselle, Ill., and lives on campus.
How are you paying for college?
My family and I are paying for college with a combination of scholarships, grants and loans. I was awarded the DePaul Presidential Scholarship, and received a couple external scholarships my senior year of high school. I was also awarded the DePaul Grant, selected for the EDGE Program and have taken advantage of Federal Direct Loans. The remaining balance of my tuition is being paid for by my parents’ contribution.
Why did you choose to attend DePaul?
I chose to attend DePaul University because, coming from the suburbs of Chicago, I have always loved Chicago so much. I could not imagine going to school anywhere else because this is the best city in the world. Chicago is full of countless opportunities, including internships, delicious restaurants, beautiful scenery, and other fun. DePaul’s mission was also something that drew me in; it’s distinctive Catholic, Vincentian, and urban identity is something that is very important to me. Not to mention Lincoln Park is a very exciting neighborhood with countless coffee shops, boutiques, restaurants, comedy clubs, and more. That is the best part of attending DePaul; it offers a very unique college experience that resembles the real world.
What do you hope to do after your graduate? What are some ways DePaul is helping you prepare for this?
After I graduate, I hope to stay in Chicago and become a marketing manager for a company that I am passionate about. DePaul is helping me prepare for this because the city is my classroom. As a brother of Alpha Kappa Psi Professional Business Fraternity, I am taking advantage of internship opportunities in Chicago so that by the time I graduate, I’ll hopefully have accepted a full-time offer at a company that I love.
From your point of view, what’s valuable about your student’s DePaul education that makes your investment worthwhile?
Kamila’s family: DePaul is the nation’s largest catholic university, and this was really appealing when Kamila was looking at schools. The small class sizes are also an advantage because we know that she is getting the personalized attention and education that she needs. Chicago is also preparing Kamila for the real world because the city is her classroom. Sending Kamila to DePaul is worth every penny, and we know that her future is bright because DePaul will help prepare her for it.
