Unemployment in cities of America is an everlasting problem, and within Chicago it is no different. The city sees wide spread unemployment throughout all areas of the city. Some tracts on the southwest side of Chicago experience an unemployment rate of over 25% of residents. We can see how unemployment is minimal in areas north of the city center, and as you venture further from the city unemployment is rising. Why these areas experience such a drastic rate of unemployment can be linked to many things, not a sole reason. Issues like crime, gentrification, and lack of city funding are a few.
