Research and Innovation through Industry Panel

This panel focuses upon translating research ideas from the academy to industry. Increasingly, corporations are relying upon faculty in the academy to conduct basic and applied research to advance the body of knowledge but also to innovate, thereby having an impact on companies and society.

Yele Adelakun
Associate Professor, MIS

Prof. Yele Adelakun’s research focuses on Digital Innovation Optimization, Agile Product Development, IT Outsourcing and Information Systems Quality. He has conducted studies in both medium size companies and large multinational companies in Europe, Africa and the United States. He has chaired several academic and industry focused conferences. He started the study abroad program in the school CDM to Brazil in 1994. He has also lead several executives’ presentations. He has published over 100 articles in conferences, books and journals.  Prof. Yele Adelakunis also the founder of the Innovation Development Lab (iD-Lab https://depaulidlab.com/) and the Optimize Digital Innovation Conference (http://www.odi2018.depaulidlab.com/) at DePaul University. He has advised many fortune 500 companies on Innovation. He is one of the Co-chairs of Chicago IAOP chapter with senior business leaders from Deloitte, Kirkland & Ellis, AbbVie, Accenture, Wipro and The Shelby Group. He is also the President of Segthlon Inc., a management and technology consulting company that provides IT solutions and services to large and medium size companies globally. He has also provided consulting and advisory services to several government agencies globally.

Dr. Adelakun holds an BSc in Computer Science from University of Lagos, Nigeria, an M.S. in Information Processing Science from University of Oulu, Oulu, Finland, a Ph.D. in Information Systems from the Turku School of Economics and Business Administration, Turku, Finland and an MBA from Kellstadt Graduate School of Business, DePaul University, Chicago, IL, USA.

Stacy Ignoffo

Ms. Stacy Ignoffo joined SUHI in January 2017 as a Program Manager, and now serves as the Director of Community Health Innovations. In this capacity, she leads and provides direction to SUHI’s Community Health Innovations Strategy and SUHI’s community health worker interventions, including the Center for CHW Research, Outcomes and Workforce Development (SUHI’s CHW training and consultation center). Ms. Ignoffo has extensive experience developing and implementing public health initiatives, building collaborative projects, engaging diverse stakeholders, and applying for and managing grants and contracts. She has designed, developed and implemented numerous programs designed to improve health outcomes and reduce disparities. These include community-based public health initiatives, community-engaged research projects, and initiatives that address policy and systems changes.

Prior to joining SUHI, Ms. Ignoffo served as Executive Director of the Chicago Asthma Consortium and Senior Director of Programs at Respiratory Health Association where she utilized her knowledge of coalition building, non-profit management and administration, program and policy development and implementation to lead lung health activities.

Ms. Ignoffo received her B.S. in Psychology from the University of Iowa and her Master’s in Social Work from Washington University.

Michael S. Rosen
Innovation and Research Park Consultant, Helix 51 Incubator

Michael S. Rosen is the Innovation and Research Park Consultant at Helix 51 Incubator for Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science, which launched its 100,000 sf phase I building last year. Mr. Rosen also has his own company, Rosen Bioscience Strategies LLC, with offices in Chicago and São Paulo, Brazil, a life science economic development consultancy focused on the development of science parks, incubators and eco-systems centered around research-based universities. His clients included Ernst & Young, CBRE, Lundquist Biomedical Institute (formerly LA Biomedical Institute), and TekCapital, a British technology firm assisting universities to accelerate technology commercialization. Prior to this, he was Senior Vice President, New Business Development for the Science + Technology Group at Forest City Realty Trust, a NYSE-traded U.S. real estate development company which developed and built science parks, such as Johns Hopkins University (Baltimore), MIT (Boston), and Northwestern University (Chicago), and he successfully brought numerous international life science into these parks.  He has worked extensively with and trained more than 300 university faculty on the creation of bioscience start-ups. 

Rosen spent many years in the life science industry including 20 years in senior management positions with Pfizer, Bristol-Myers Squibb and Searle/Monsanto, while living in Latin America, Japan, and Europe, and worked extensively in Canada, India and Asia. Additionally, he spent 12 years as President/CEO of European and U.S. biotech and medical device companies in the areas of cancer, cardiology, GI, neuroscience, woundcare and kidney disease. He is currently a board member of the German Hospital Oswaldo Cruz (Sao Paulo, Brazil), the American Society of the University of Haifa (Israel), Heal Ventures (Guatelmala City), and a member of the Business Advisory Board of Cures Within Reach. He was a co-founder and former Chairman, Vice-Chairman and board member of the Illinois Biotechnology Innovation Organization (IBIO), and former chairman of the Center for Healthcare Innovation. He has been an adjunct professor of biotechnology at Northwestern University and professor of International Management at Lake Forest Graduate School of Management (Chicago).

He received his B.A. in Sociology and International Relations from Beloit College and an M.B.A. in International Business from the University of Miami. He has graduate and post-graduate studies at Northwestern University, Sophia University (Tokyo, Japan) and the Adolfo Ibañez University and School of Business (Santiago, Chile).

Dr. Marty Martin

As the newly selected DePaul Research & Innovation Leadership Fellow, Dr. Marty Martin, a Full Professor in the Department of Management & Entrepreneurship, brings a wealth of diverse academic, entrepreneurial and operational knowledge, and skills to his new role. Dr. Martin has been instrumental in many of the university’s successes over the years, including designing new courses, developing mission aligned, student centered concentration programs and launching dual/joint degree.

Dr. Martin began his career at Xavier University of Louisiana (his alma mater) after completing his Postdoctoral Fellowship in Health Psychology. Later, he served as a manager and executive at Tulane University Hospitals & Clinics and the Johns Hopkins Hospital. Based upon his scholarly work, he was selected as a Visiting Scholar in Residence at the National Institute for Occupational Safety & Health (NIOSH).

Dr. Martin first joined DePaul as Senior Executive for Institutional Diversity, then served as AVP of HR & HRIS and later as Associate Dean at Barat College of DePaul. In 2004, he joined the faculty and launched his academic career.
