Hui Lin Appointed Director of the School of Accountancy & MIS, Effective July 1

Associate Professor Hui Lin

The Driehaus College of Business at DePaul University has appointed Hui Lin as director of its School of Accountancy & MIS (SOAMIS), effective July 1, 2022. Lin, an associate professor and director of the business college’s international programs, succeeds Ray Whittington, who will step down and return to teaching full-time in the school at the end of academic year.

Lin brings a distinguished background as a teacher, scholar and international program administrator to her new role. A member of DePaul’s faculty since 2008, Hui currently serves as director of the Driehaus Center for International Business and is DePaul’s associate director of regional initiatives – China. She has successfully initiated and managed strategies the business college’s international degree and study abroad programs in addition to serving as DePaul’s ambassador for student recruitment and alumni engagement in China. Lin’s expertise is in knowledge management, accounting information systems, information security and internal controls. She received the DePaul Excellence in Teaching Award in 2014 and her research has been published in leading academic journals.

“I am honored to be selected as the next director of the School of Accountancy & MIS and look forward to working alongside Ray in the next few months to learn from him and transition for the upcoming school year,” says Lin. “Together we will continue to prepare our students for success in diverse career paths in accounting and uphold the quality of our highly-regarded programs. My priority as director will be to attract more students to accounting, ensure resources and support for our faculty and staff, and engage and collaborate with our alumni.”

Professor Ray Whittington

Ray Whittington served two tenures as director of the School of Accountancy & MIS, before and after his 10-year run as dean of the business college from 2006 to 2017. Under his recent leadership, the School of Accountancy & MIS successfully earned a five-year AACSB accreditation renewal, received a $1 million gift from RSM US Foundation to promote academic excellence, integrated more data analytics into the undergraduate accounting curriculum as part of a larger curriculum revision, and established new Deloitte scholarships.

Another big part of Whittington’s legacy involves his work with Ledger & Quill, the school’s alumni and donor society. He helped build an extensive network of active alumni who sponsor scholarships, professor awards and general support for the school. He also oversaw the launch of the school’s first-ever Office of Student Success and Engagement, which provides learning opportunities for students beyond the classroom. Throughout his career, Whittington has authored several textbooks on accounting and has a well-established research record.

“Please join me in congratulating Hui and Ray as they both begin new chapters in their professional journeys,” says Thomas Donley, interim dean of the Driehaus College of Business. “I am excited for the vision and vigor Hui will bring to the role and am grateful to Ray for his dedicated service, which has lifted the school’s caliber in the accounting education landscape.”
