Growing up in a traditional family in Hyderabad, India, I was immersed in Indian customs, values, and a strong emphasis on learning. My education included both academic and cultural studies, which left a lasting impact on me. After earning my bachelor’s degree in engineering, I started working as a Software Engineer at IBM and later at Accenture, where I gained valuable experience in technology. Alongside my career, my passion for fitness and wellness grew, with CrossFit, yoga, and meditation becoming essential in my life. These practices helped me stay balanced, manage stress, and excel in demanding roles.

My journey from a yoga practitioner to a certified instructor began at IBM, where a yoga studio was introduced at the office. I became a regular there and quickly saw how consistent practice improved my focus, helped me stay calm, and made me more effective at work. Encouraged by family, friends, and colleagues who often asked for my advice, I decided to deepen my knowledge by earning my Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT)-200 certification from the Bodhi School of Yoga in 2022. This certification marked a turning point, empowering me to start teaching yoga.

In October 2023, I took on a new role as a Group Fitness Instructor at DePaul Campus Recreation to lead yoga classes —a truly rewarding experience. At first, I wasn’t sure how students would respond to traditional Indian yoga, but the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. I’m thrilled to see regular participants and to meet people from all walks of life—from students of various majors to professionals and retirees, ages 18 to 75+.

With support from the Coleman Entrepreneurship Center, I started Shakti Yoga to bring authentic Indian yoga to the DePaul community. I recently submitted my application to present Shakti Yoga, and presenting at “Looped In: Chicago’s Startup Social” in September was a major milestone that motivated me to keep going. I enjoyed meeting students, professors, and others in the DePaul community, sharing the benefits of yoga and meditation for health. This event also helped me promote my business, social media, class schedule, and updates.

Balancing my role as a Senior Quality Engineer at Accenture, my yoga training, and preparing to study in the United States was challenging. But yoga, meditation, and relaxation techniques helped me handle it all smoothly. Life can be unpredictable and tough, so I want to help people around me discover yoga and make it part of their lifestyle. This way, they can lead calmer, more relaxed lives no matter what challenges come their way.

As I approach graduation in Spring 2025, I’m focused on finding a full-time career role that combines my skills in business analytics, consulting, and project management. Ultimately, I also aim to grow “Shakti Yoga” into a business that promotes fitness and wellness on all levels—physical, mental, and spiritual. DePaul has played a key role in shaping this journey, and I’m grateful for all the support and experiences I’ve had here.
