Meet Sebastian Moreno

Meet Sebastian Moreno, an alum of the DePaul Class of 2021. A finance major with a minor in business economics, Sebastian grew up in the southwest suburbs of Chicago. Before finishing his undergraduate at DePaul, he started his college career at Indiana University-Bloomington but then decided to transfer to DePaul because of the attractive opportunities presented by both the school and the windy city, including city life, and a wide breadth of diversity and inclusion for students from all socioeconomic backgrounds.

During his time at DePaul, Sebastian was an active student, participating in various school organizations. He also assisted in co-founding several finance student organizations, including DePaul Inclusion in Finance and DePaul TeaTalks. In addition, he was an active member in DePaul Investment Group (DIG), Student Finance Association, and served on the Male Alliance for the DePaul Females in Finance Initiative.

Throughout his college experience, Sebastian had opportunities to participate in multiple events hosted by prestigious firms, such as Day with Deloitte Tax, Virtual Learning Series with Morgan Stanley, Sophomore Edge Program with JP Morgan Chase & Co., Find your Future Forum with BlackRock, and other programs at UBS, McKinsey, Microsoft, and Goldman Sachs. After his sophomore year, he interned at Deloitte and after his junior year, he interned at Microsoft on their Treasury Capital Markets team. Sebastian credits his success to not being afraid to take risks even when faced with improbable chances of succeeding.

Currently, Sebastian is working at Microsoft as a Senior Analyst in their rotational program in Seattle. At first considering other more traditional finance firms, Sebastian was captivated by the “growth mindset” mentality that Microsoft values. Microsoft was the perfect fit because of their empathetic and innovative culture.

Given his many accomplishments, when asked what his proudest moment was to date, Sebastian mentioned that delivering the commencement speech for the Driehaus College of Business during graduation was one of the highlights of his college career. Furthermore, he mentioned that this event was the culmination of countless support from peers and mentors he met throughout various group projects, club work, and the Keeley Center Academy.

When we asked Sebastian what advice he would give to students trying to successfully navigate their college experience, he replied, “Be kind to everyone and don’t be afraid to be different, it’s what’s going to make you stand out in the future. If it weren’t for the naive optimism, ambitious spirit, and relentless desire to overcome challenging moments in the face of adversity, I wouldn’t have had the courage to accomplish many of the long-term goals that were once just dreams. You owe it to yourself to go out and try that thing you’ve always wanted to do.”

Sebastian, we wish you nothing but success and all the best in your future endeavors!
