Winter Activities in Chicago!
2. TREE LIGHTING AND CHRISTKINDL MARKT
Unlike last year (CLICK HERE TO READ), I did not go early to watch the countdown to the Christmas lights, instead, I planned to go a bit late on purpose, to avoid the crowd. And to my surprise, it worked very well! The entry to Millennium Park was a short line instead of the usual long one, and taking photos was easier! There was definitely a trade-off with missing out on the energy of chanting the numbers down with the crowd, but overall, it was a really fun experience!
This gave me an advantage to visit the Christkindl Markt, too, as unlike last time, I was actually able to go to the photo booth and click the picture almost every couple wants to.
Right after the fall season was over, Chicago was greeted by the cold weather and early sunsets again. With this also came the wonderful city lights and warm hot chocolate to keep me warm and cozy. Here are three things I did this year to enjoy the winter in Chicago!
1. ZOO LIGHTS
The Lincoln Park Zoo is home to many animals, but for a few weeks, it also hosts wonder lighting creations. With a ticket of 10 dollars, I was set to enjoy the seasonal luminous space. Something about watching the mighty lions snooze by the Christmas trees was incredibly adorable. The hot chocolate stations around the zoo helped me get a warm drink in my system so I could keep clicking pictures and enjoying the view.
3. SLEDDING
After the first Chicago snow in November, some of my friends who live in the suburbs decided to go sledging. With a sled in the car trunk, we went to the nearest kid’s park to enjoy the snow and satisfy the little kids in our hearts. We went down the slope multiple times but then had to stop as a small rainy session melted the snow we needed to slide. Then followed a snowball fight and a snowman-building competition. A great way of getting in the mood of the holiday season.
Overall, I really enjoyed the glimpse of the holiday season I got here in Chicago. Despite going home for Christmas, I still got to experience the jolly vibe of the holidays.
