Why I Love Working on Campus

As a student employee at DePaul University, specifically within the Department of Housing and Residence Life as a Social Media Manager, I’ve come to cherish every moment spent on this vibrant campus. Here, I’ve found not just a workplace, but a community that fosters growth, creativity, and connection.

One of the most rewarding aspects of my role is the opportunity to engage with the diverse student body through social media. From highlighting campus events to sharing stories of student residents, I have the privilege of amplifying the voices and experiences that make DePaul truly special. It’s incredibly fulfilling to contribute to a platform that brings our community together, fosters inclusivity, and celebrates our collective achievements.

Working within the Department of Housing and Residence Life has provided me with invaluable professional development opportunities. Collaborating with a dedicated team of staff and fellow student employees has taught me the importance of teamwork, communication, and adaptability. Whether it’s brainstorming content ideas or strategizing marketing campaigns, I’ve honed skills that will definitely benefit me in my future career endeavors.

Sneak peek of my role

Beyond the professional growth, being a student employee at DePaul allows me to immerse myself in campus life in a way that wouldn’t be possible otherwise. From attending resident events to exploring the various resources and facilities available both on campus and in the city, I feel deeply connected to the university community. There’s a sense of pride that comes with contributing to the vibrant tapestry of campus life, knowing that I’m playing a part in shaping the student experience for myself and my peers.

The support and mentorship I’ve received from faculty and staff have been instrumental in my personal & academic growth. I work about 10 hours a week each quarter, with about a third of my time being remote. My managers are always super understanding of my schedule and allow me to work more or less hours if I need to. They also understand that I have classes on both the Loop and Lincoln Park campus, so I may be a tiny bit late or leave early due to the train timings. Whether it’s advice on career paths or guidance on navigating challenges, I’m grateful to be part of a community that prioritizes student success and well-being.
