Shopping, Vending, and More at DAB Flea Market
DePaul’s Activity Board, better known as DAB, each quarter hosts a flea market. I had the great chance not only to go and wander around, but also be a vendor at the market. The flea market has things ranging from second-hand clothes, handmade jewelry and crafts, crochet flowers, and even a little food. The flea market is a great way to get DePaul students involved and allow them to pursue their passions.
The spring flea market was out on the quad. It was absolutely gorgeous, with all the trees blossoming. The market had so many stalls with so many things. There was definitely something for everyone. Being located in the quad meant there was never a dull moment. Most vendors were other DePaul students, and it was amazing to see students supporting students. The atmosphere was so friendly and it truly felt like a community.
Being a Vendor
This quarter I decided to apply to be a vendor at the flea market. I run a stationery shop on the side (@SiennaSunnyStudio on Instagram). I have cards, note cards, bookmarks, and other little art trinkets that I make. It was really a great opportunity as a student because normally it is hard to attend classes and find a place to vend at. DAB offering this to not only students, but local community members was a great idea. They did not charge a vendor fee and even provided tents which was a huge help.
I had a lot of fun and I definitely suggest bringing someone along. I had a friend come with me to help out, and so we could both take turns looking around. Having company is my number one advice when doing any of these markets.
I have to say that this has so far been my favorite market to be a vendor at. It was nice to see so many students, professors, and neighbors, who were all so supportive. Going to DePaul means there is always so much to do and participate in.
