How to Stay in the Know at DePaul

A student in a green sweater takes a selfie in front of a bulletin board displaying posters for events like Trivia Night and a talk on justice reform.

I found it’s hard when starting college to figure out how to get involved and where all these things are going on. The following are great starting points and as a self proclaimed activity finder I got you.

1. Bulletin Boards

The first thing is the bulletin boards. While this one may look a little sparse at the moment, by mid quarter it is jammed packed with things going on. From clubs, clothing drives, and even work opportunities. I always take a few minutes once a week to just look through one of them. They can be found all over both campuses and there is one on almost every floor of DePaul Center.

2. Offices

Another great place to look at when trying to find out about events is the department offices, like the Department of Marketing, Career Center, and Library. Almost everyone has a cute little entrance table with upcoming events related to that department and there’s usually some candy too! This is a great stop as there’s usually student workers who can fill you in on the details of these events and also connect you to clubs.

3. Posters

The Loop Campus has movie poster style posters in the dining hall floor. This is usually where they are advertising fan favorite events! Similarly in Lincoln Park in the Student Center they have banners advertising these must not miss events, from duck day, roller skating, executive speaker series and more. I find them easy to see and is a great reminder of what is happening.

4. DeHub

DeHub is a DePaul special webpage that lets you follow clubs, and see a calendar of events. Joining clubs that you are interested in through the DeHub page is a great way. Once joined you get emails from them. DeHub also has this great calendar tab. Personally this is my favorite part, since I love being able to see everything that’s going on during the week.

5. Social Media

Last, but not least is social media. Almost every club has an Instagram page and that’s where you can find not only what is happening, but see student takeovers and more. Also every office has a social media account and they will be posting about their events. As I’m on social media at least once a day, its hard to miss it.

There is always something happening on campus, from speaker events, club meetings and just plain fun activities. The more you talk to people and peruse the buildings, the more you will find!
