Health and Wellness at DePaul

Staying fit not only physically but also mentally in college is super important. I know personally it can be hard to balance both mental and physical health, but luckily DePaul has a great resource to help. The Office of Health Promotion and Wellness offers counseling, educational programs, and of course some rocking events.
Now, I love a good event at DePaul, since I can fill in down time, learn new things, grab a snack, and get some freebies. Some of my favorite events are hosted by the Office of Health and Wellness. Every winter they host an event called “How to Beat the Winter Blues,” and it is so much fun. They have different educational activities, like ways to spot unhealthy relationships, or true and false questions about mental health. They also include fun activities like planting flowers, creating crafts, and of course entering a raffle. Usually included are massage chairs, which are personally my favorite. In addition they host a de-stress event during the first quarter, where students get to go around and learn about different ways to manage stress. When I was a freshman this was a great help as they gave me multiple techniques, from stress balls, playdough, writing your worries, and activities to relax.

The Office also offers a lot of different services, from group counseling, support groups, and specific sessions on things like relationships, which is always posted on their instagram @HealthyDePaul. These are very useful things to do if you need help. A lot of the events are student-led, which is great because it’s nice to be learning these things from peers who understand you.
The Office of Health and Wellness is definitely a great one to stay connected to. It is truly wonderful to have resources that encourage good mental and physical health. Also as the events they put on are always some of the best, you may even get to see your own flower bloom.
