Getting into the DePaul Holiday Spirit

Since we’re on the quarter system, we get to kickoff the holiday season in early November. The annual ugly sweater party and tree lighting took place on the DePaul Quad on the Lincoln Park campus. There were all sorts of festivities separate from the actual tree lighting itself, including a giveaway of DePaul holiday merchandise, festive snacks and drinks, inflatable decorations, bouncy houses and carnival rides. Closer to sunset, a crowd of students and families gathered around the tree waiting for the switch to be turned on. There were a few speakers sharing cheery messages and stories, as well as an acapella performance from The Fullertones singing holiday music. The lighting itself was magical, as the dark skies were lit up by the colorful lights hung on the tree.
