Come to a Google Pop-Up Event at DePaul With Me!

A Google pop-up event in a university quad.
In the midst of deadlines, classes, exams, homework, and more, it can be hard to remember how opportunistic being a college student is and how many random benefits you receive throughout your college career. Although discounts at restaurants and shops are a great aspect of being a student, one thing I feel as though I haven’t taken enough advantage of while being at DePaul are the random pop-ups that happen all over campus throughout the year. Recently, I’ve been able to attend a couple of cool pop-ups held by Google that have given DePaul students the opportunity to not only learn about some of Google’s latest features for students, but to also collect a few free gifts.

A Chance Encounter

Today, I was on my way out of the Lincoln Park Student Center when I looked over and noticed a colorful archway that urged me to “Experience the new way to search.” Considering I had the time, I decided to check the event out and it ended up being an informative and exciting sidequest that made my day. The only entry fee to the event was to download the Google app and suddenly I was invited to learn about some new search features that provide efficient and effective ways to help students research material, study for upcoming tests and exams, and create guides and content with AI assistance.

A fun addition to the pop-up was the chance to win prizes for simply showing up! This event was giving out free chocolate bars provided by Tony’s Chocolonely, and as we got to choose our preferred flavor, we were encouraged to open our chocolates to see if we had a special ticket inside. My boyfriend was with me and everybody in the room celebrated with us when he was surprised at the sight of a colorful ticket hidden underneath his chocolate bar’s wrapping. He later received a free Google TV Streamer as a gift for his lucky finding. Right after, we got to spin a wheel for even more prizes and soon enough we both walked out of the Student Center with new hats, chocolate, stickers, and his new tv streamer.

Free Owala’s For Students!

Earlier this year, Google had another pop-up in the Quad as a way to promote Google Gemini. After learning about its tools and features, students were given a free Owala water bottle which absolutely blew my mind considering the fact that I was in need of a new water bottle, but mostly because I was able to receive such a high-quality gift all because I decided to show up. It’s moments like this that remind me how being a student already provides so much opportunity for a person because there will always be people, companies, and brands that want to extend a helping hand.

So if you are ever on campus and happen to come across a brand/company sponsored pop-up or even one of the many events DePaul holds throughout the year, give yourself the chance to explore and learn about it because you’ll never know what they have in store for you!
