1. DePaul Aandhi

During my first quarter of freshman year, a couple of my friends and I decided to try out for a Bollywood dance team (DePaul Aandhi) for fun. However, after all of us were selected, it became a wonderful way to branch out and connect with others who eventually became our friends, too. We met three times a week from 7-8 pm and learned cool and trendy choreographies on the current “It” Bollywood party songs. Members were able to learn different styles of dances such as Hip-Hop, a less traditional form of Salsa and even Kuthu. We were also able to perform in DePaul SASA’s 2024 Mehendi ki Raat as a feature dance piece.

3. Boxing Club

A club I have my eye on is DePaul’s Boxing Club. Having had multiple friends who have previously been a part of the club, I have heard nothing but great things about it. The club allows its members to practice boxing techniques regardless of their level you are at. It meets twice a week for practice and also has an additional optional sparring meeting for confident members who want to apply their skills practically. You are able to attend the first week at the club for free to really see if you like it, and then join officially.

Having the option of being a part of a campus that celebrates different kinds of people is amazing, and I have definitely found a lot of great friends along the way via clubs. I hope you can find your people here at DePaul, too!

College can be weird and cool at the same time for so many reasons. One of them is due to the sudden freedom you have access to. While wanting to explore the limits of said limit, college students also have to focus on balancing their time on their higher education, as the primary reason they came to university is to obtain a degree.

This “finding balance” can be quite hard for many and can lead to loneliness despite being surrounded by thousands. This can be very hard to navigate, and is where I think college clubs come into play. Being involved in groups you identify with is a must, in my opinion, when at college. One of the most natural ways of making friends at DePaul is to join a club or team that you’re passionate about.

With over 350 student organisations, DePaul offers many options to choose from. From ethnicity-based groups such as DePaul SASA (read more about connecting with DePaul as an Indian HERE ) to specific hobbies such as chess at DePaul’s chess club, you can celebrate your identity or talent by surrounding yourself with like-minded people outside of classrooms.

2. Computer Science Society (CSS)

As the current CSS treasurer, I have nothing but great things to say about this club. We, the board, try to apply ourselves to the fullest by organising different types of meetings every week. These meetings can range from a chill game day meeting where attendees can network with each other to LeetCode practice meetings where everyone can collaborate and solve different levels of LeetCode problems. Occasionally, the club also invites special guests such as Recruiters and employees from different companies, like iManage, to help get insight into the latest best application practices and tips to get hired post-college.

We usually meet every Wednesday from 4:30-5:30 in the CDM building of the Loop campus. I would highly encourage attending a meeting you are interested in to get involved in Tech-specific conversations. Best Part? Being a member is completely free! While I am not allowed to officially make any announcements, I want to excite everyone reading this that from Fall 25 Quarter onwards, CSS is planning to host bigger and better events than ever before! Keep an eye out for the official Instagram account for more details.
