Blue Demon Approved:
Favorite Picks at the Library
at DePaul University
The library isn’t just a place to check out books—it’s a hub of creativity, knowledge, and deep focus (and yes, it’s okay to say the library is cool, by the way). I’ve found that the library aligns with many of my interests, so I’m highlighting some top picks from the shelves and services that can elevate your library experience. Whether you’re here for music, books, or a quiet study space, the library welcomes everyone!
Record Picks
When I learned that the library loans out vinyl—and not just older collections of historical music (Mozart, you’re a GOAT, but I’m looking for deep house vibes)—I was ecstatic. They even had Charli XCX on vinyl!
The access services desk is where you go to check out vinyl, request equipment, and even borrow a PlayStation 5 (yes, really). I stopped by and picked up albums from two of my favorite artists, starting with my all-time favorite:
Kaytranada- BUBBA
If you’re into smooth electronic beats blended with hip-hop and R&B, Kaytranada will have you vibing—whether you’re studying or just chilling. As the originator of this synthy-lofi house style, he’s infused Afro-beats, Brazilian funk, and other genres to create his signature sound. His Boiler Room DJ set is one of my favorites—and the internet’s too (look it up)

Kamasi Washington – Fearless Movement
Jazz lovers, this one’s for you. Washington’s dynamic, often psychedelic-rich saxophone sounds create an immersive listening experience, offering mellow vibes perfect for a study session. A frequent collaborator with Kendrick Lamar, Kamasi played a prominent role on Kendrick’s critically acclaimed To Pimp a Butterfly in 2015.
His expressive saxophone work shaped that album, and on this one, he offers a deeper look into his mind—a beautiful, emotional, and deeply cultural commentary layered through a multitude of sounds that can be described as magic. (Also, check out his fit—he looks like a wizard saxophonist!)

Book Pick
Did you know you can renew your books online? I didn’t! I lugged the heavy book pictured on the train back to the library—only to find out afterward.
Did I want to return it at that moment? Absolutely not! I love the work TASCHEN does in publishing coffee table books with substance. One of my favorite library picks is The Copy Book (which I just renewed online for a second time!).
“The Copy Book” by TASCHEN
A must-read for writers, designers, and creatives, this book compiles ad work from top advertising copywriters worldwide. Whether you’re an advertising or marketing student or simply love great storytelling, it offers invaluable examples of compelling copy in advertising. I love flipping through its pages for inspiration—it’s the perfect book to have on hand during the quarter whenever you need a break from schoolwork.
Can’t finish it in time? No worries! Renewing online is as simple as clicking a button!
Booking a Pod
Need a quiet space to focus? The study pods at the library are perfect for deep concentration and solo studying. Booking a pod is quick and easy—just hop online and reserve a slot that fits your schedule. Whether you’re tackling a research paper or prepping for exams, these pods provide the distraction-free zone you need (especially if you’re stuck in a busy communal area). It’s like Goku’s Hyperbolic Time Chamber—but for learning.
Pro tip: Reserve early during peak study times to secure your spot because these are popular!

From music and books to private study spaces, the library is your go-to resource for both work and relaxation. Stop by, explore new finds, and make the most of everything we have to offer!
See you at the library!
