Applying for Jobs

Being a senior at DePaul is just as exciting, yet equally as scary, as it may seem.  I am not going to grad school next year, so I have recently started the job search. The job search has been very stressful, so I thought I would give a few tips to help you all.

First off, narrow down your search to a few cities and job titles that interest you.  I am majoring in Public Relations and Advertising with a minor in Graphic Design, so there are many different career opportunities available for me.  When I first started looking, the choices seemed endless. After reading job descriptions, I narrowed down my search to just a few titles.

Another tip I have is to start looking EARLY!  The earlier you start looking, the better. If you start early, you may receive multiple offers and therefore make a logical choice that is best for you.

Lastly, I have found that the best places to look for jobs are on LinkedIn or Handshake.  Both of these websites automatically recommend jobs for you based off of your interests, desired city to live in, major, and so on.  Both websites also show if you have any connections at any of the places you apply. I also recommend using the career center as an asset for you as well.  I have received many emails from them with great job opportunities for my major in Chicago or other cities such as New York, Los Angeles, Seattle, etc.

Job searching can be daunting, so I hope these quick tips were helpful for you all!  If you have any other recommendations to make the job searching process go smoother, please let me know!
