An Evening in Chinatown!

Before heading towards Chinatown shops and restaurants, we went to the Ping Tom Memorial Park. Unfortunately, we had just missed the sunset, but the sky thankfully stayed in various shades of pastel for a while. Walking around amidst the lush green setting was a change my eyes desperately needed. After marvelling at the beautiful city skyline, we walked towards the new Chinatown.

Then, we made our way upstairs to Kung Fu Tea to grab ourselves some cool and sweet boba tea. My usual? A classic oolong milk tea with boba as an additional topping. My boyfriend got the Oreo slushie also with boba. Both the drinks were amazing, and refreshing and effectively justified my adoration towards boba tea.

Before ending the night, we decided to simply visit the shops around us and look at all the cool and fun things Chinatown has to offer. In my personal opinion, this is a great place to get touristic trinkets from. After enjoying great quality time with my boyfriend in Chinatown, we embarked on the Red Line train again, this time towards Howard, ending the night on a very happy note.

Learn More about Student Life at DePaul!

Living in the city has its obvious perks. Ever since I moved to the DePaul LPC, I never had to worry about being bored or having nothing to do. Why? I live in one of the most lively cities in the world and thanks to the Ventra Pass which is included in the tuition fees (but can be opted out of if you wish to do so), getting from point A to point B is easier than ever.

On a random slow evening, my boyfriend and I decided to get ready, get out of our dorms and see where this city takes us. We walked for five minutes to the Fullerton station and hopped on the red line towards the loop. Spontaneously we planned to get off at Cermak/ Chinatown and the rest of the evening was filled with unforgettable memories.

One of the first things which caught our attention was the statues of the Chinese zodiac animals. Of course, I was intrigued by which animal represented my birth year – 2004. The description of the monkey was very cool. Unlike other animals, no negative traits about it were written there, which allowed me to tease my boyfriend effectively 🙂

For dinner, we walked away from new Chinatown to old Chinatown. Specifically, the Legend Dumpling + Bao, which is an underrated gem in Chicago where you can find cheap yet delicious food. I got myself a plate of Vegan Bao which was super filling and a great change from our everyday food options.
