A Guide to On-Campus Housing
Hello! My name is Costello, and I’m a senior at DePaul studying Film & Television! Besides living on-campus my freshman year, I have been working for DePaul in the department of Housing & Residence Life since 2022. Today, I will walk you through the intricacies of applying for on-campus housing at DePaul and why I think it’s a great option for many students!
The first step before even opening the Online Housing Application is choosing your campus! When applying for housing, you can only pick one campus, so make sure to do your research before completing the application! Our Lincoln Park Campus has the most housing options, but some students prefer the Loop Campus for its proximity to the downtown campus and city life benefits.
Next, let’s explore some of the building options available! When you complete the Online Housing Application, you’ll be able to rank your top five preferences, and the Housing department will do their best to assign you based on your preferences and space availability. If you are coming in as a freshman, you will be assigned to one of our six Traditional Residence Halls. These dorms offer a range of room sizes and styles, from singles to triples! If you are applying as a continuing or transferring student, you will be assigned to one of our six On-Campus Apartments! These accommodations are apartment-style, complete with bedrooms, shared living spaces, and kitchens! Additionally, if you apply as a continuing student, you will be able to participate in Room Selection, where you can select your exact room and building for next year!
Once you’ve narrowed down your options to five, it’s time to start the application process! The housing application can be completed at any time through myhousing.depaul.edu. Since it’s online, simply click through and input information until the application is complete! Freshmen and students applying for housing for the first time are also required to submit a $400 prepayment, which can be submitted through go.depaul.edu/housingprepayment. Finally, students under 18 years old at the time of applying are required to submit a parent/guardian voucher, which can be found on DePaul’s housing website! Once all of those elements have been completed, simply wait for your assignment letter to be emailed to you with your room and building!
During my freshman year, I lived on-campus at Ozanam Hall and it was one of the best decisions I made that year! I met so many wonderful people, many of whom I’m still friends with to this day, including my current roommates, even though we’ve moved off campus. It is a great way to stay connected with the DePaul community, and the proximity to classes, events, dining halls, and more can’t be beat! If you are interested in living on-campus or learning more, you can find all of this information and more at DePaul’s housing website.
