4 Bollywood Movies to Watch ASAP!
As finals week is over and the summer has started for all DePaul students, I am sure everyone is looking for something to spend their time on. Watching movies and TV series is going to be one of the norms for the vacation. Being an international student from India, I can’t help but notice how people in the US (and hence DePaul) do not know many great Bollywood movies. Therefore I thought I would share some of my favorites with my readers in hopes that they will check them out one day as they can even help them stay busy during the summer break.
2. YJHD
YJHD is a romcom which follows Naina and Bunny, both of whom have chosen to live life in a completely different manner. While Naina focuses on her career to put food on her plate and eventually settle down with a family of her own, Bunny is set to travel the whole world. When life forces them to cross paths again, however, we are met with an interesting exchange of ideologies as an eventual love story unfolds. Written and filmed beautifully this movie has also given birth to some of the most iconic Bollywood music to date and is worth watching.
4. Student of the Year
SOTY (Student of the Year) is a stereotypical commercial Bollywood movie. It is the kind of movie which you can watch at the end of a taxing day to relax as it follows a lighthearted story and does not expect you to use a lot of brain power to enjoy it. The songs force you to dance but besides that, this is a teenage drama between students who all are competing against each other for the prestigious trophy of the Student of the Year. Along the way, they must work around their friendships and figure out their priorities.
If you ever watch any of these movies, let me know what you think of them on Instagram @xotani!

1. ZNMD
ZNMD (Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara) is a Comedic and Romantic movie which came out in 2011. It gives a slice-of-life feel and while it makes you laugh tremendously throughout the film, by the end, you can’t help but take away a great message as well which is: “Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara”, which translates to “You won’t get your life”. It implies that you should make the most of each moment and have fun as much as possible! It is a lighthearted watch with great writing and cinematography and has been considered to be one of the best Bollywood movies ever made.
3. Queen
Rani who is set to get married to the love of her life is caught off guard when he decides to cancel the marriage mere days before the wedding. Heartbroken and confused she is left with two tickets to her honeymoon to Europe. On a whim, she decides to catch the plane alone, leading her on a journey which helps her open the door to a world beyond her neighbourhood. This movie is my favourite Bollywood movie. The songs, writing and acting all work together greatly to deliver an amazing storyline. This is the type of movie you should watch at least once in your life.
