3 Thrifting Places in Chicago!

As a college student, it’s a no-brainer that most of us have a very tight budget. With other necessities to take care of such as tuition fees and expensive textbooks, other luxuries such as fashion, are nothing but an afterthought.

Thankfully, Chicago has a great scene for thrifting! Here are my top three picks to stay in touch with your style while also ensuring that you don’t hurt your pocket a lot!

1. Goodwill

Located across multiple locations in and near Chicago, Goodwill has a lot to offer. From coats and jackets to random electronic gadgets too, they’ve got a shelf for almost everything. The variety is generous and gives the customer a lot of freedom to choose something which fits them and their style.

My favourite Goodwill is located at 30 N Racine Ave #230, Chicago, IL 60607. Reaching this place is simple. From the Lincoln Park campus, you walk to the Fullerton “L train” station to catch the Brown Line towards Loop till Washington/ Wells. Then bus number 20 to Austin till the Madison and Racine stop. With a short two-minute walk, you will be there!

Below are some finds I got from this place:

2. Village Discount

Village Discount is filled with a lot of clothes. It’s almost impossible to not find something you like. The sections at each store are sorted very nicely and the low price range appeals to almost everyone.

My preferred outlet can be reached by taking the brown line to Paulina and then walking a little bit to reach 4027 N Kedzie Ave, Chicago, IL 60618.

3. Wicker Park

If money isn’t something you are worried about and like to thrift to find some very rare and cool things, then I would recommend visiting Wicker Park. Littered with many thrift shops, it is also just a cool spot to visit with your friends on a sunny day off. Unfortunately, I haven’t gotten anything from there, but the collection is impressive, to say the least, hence why I’m including it in this list.

How to get here from LPC? Get on the bus number 74 direction Grand/Nordica. Walk for about a min after getting off at Fullerton and Damen, to reach the other bus station for bus number 50 direction 35th/Archer Orange Line.

Traveling to these places is genuinely easy thanks to the CTA pass you get from DePaul. (If you aren’t fond of having one, you can also opt-out of this service if wanted.)

I hope this helps you to enjoy the quarter in style!
