DePaul Spring Roll Social
The Spring Roll Social event is a really cool event that DePaul puts on for any student to attend. The event took place during the week on a Wednesday from 1 to 3, and it offered a great opportunity for students to take a break from their work and get some good food. Additionally, there was apron making and a great environment to meet new people doing something fun.
The Spring Roll Social was held in the DePaul Center on the 11th floor. The DePaul Center is on the Loop Campus, and the 11th floor is also where the Loop Campus dining hall is located. DePaul often likes to set up their events like this, usually if they are offering food they will hold the event near locations like dining halls or cafes on campus where people typically go to get food. I tend to appreciate this as I have been in many situations where I am going to go spend money on food, and instead I end up getting a free meal provided by the university. There’s also usually a bonus of something to do or some fun theme, and I usually end up having a pretty good time.
In this case, the theme was obviously spring rolls. Not only that, it was make-your-own spring rolls. When you walked in, you were greeted with one of three spring roll making stations. The main option for protein was pork, but there was also tofu available for vegetarian students. Additionally, there were a ton of other options for things you could put in your spring roll. There were rice noodles, vegetables, sauces, all kinds of things. On top of the spring rolls, there were some dessert options, fruit, as well as water and lemonade, all for free for students! It was honestly more fun than I thought, and there were university employees around to help teach you how to make your spring roll. I even bonded with someone in line as we both struggled to close up our rolls.
The other thing happening during this event was apron making. They had tons of aprons ready for students, and a bunch of different patches and things to put on your apron. DePaul likes to do this for their events, they know students want a chance to eat some good food, and they also want a fun experience like making an apron that gives them something they get to take home too.
Overall, this event is a great example of the fun things that are always going on every week during the school year. DePaul does a very good job of providing events like this one so that students can take breaks from their normal routines and also have the potential to meet other students. Look out for more posts on DeBlogs about all the awesome events at DePaul!
