Building a Gym Routine

Going to the gym consistently has been a goal of mine for a long time. However, every time I try to start a routine, I can’t seem to find the motivation or the time. This past quarter, I’ve had more success and I’m starting to see the benefits of living a healthier life. I feel very passionately that everyone who wants to go to the gym should. So here I am, sharing some of the strategies that have helped me! 🙂

Don’t be afraid to start small

It can be intimidating to go to the gym when you’re just starting out. Everyone seems to know how the machines work and how many reps to do. Start out by going 1-2 times a day for 30 minutes to get the hang of things. Try to listen to your body and know your limits. Remember that everyone has to start somewhere.

Go with a friend

This has been a game changer! Going with a friend is not only fun but they hold you accountable. It’s a lot harder to say no or avoid going when you know that someone is counting on you for a workout. I’m a very competitive person so going with my roommates have helped me get motivated through competition.

Set goals

Maybe you want to run a marathon and going to the gym will help you get better at running. Maybe you want to lift heavier weights. Or maybe you just want to get into shape. Whatever your goals are, having them and seeing your progress is very rewarding. Don’t forget that you are working to make your body healthier, use that as your motivation 🙂
