While classes may have been virtual this quarter, it did not stop me from enjoying these 10 things about DePaul:

  1. My Chicago Quarter Class

The class I am currently in is Asian Food & Foodways. It was a great way to meet new, great people going to DePaul. It was interesting to learn about Asian foods and their history with other students. To top it all off, the class had an amazing professor and Common Hour mentors to make everyone feel welcome at DePaul.

  1. Independence

I really like that DePaul makes you responsible for paying attention to what assignments and projects are due. I like how I manage my own time with assignments, and how they are handled week by week, instead of projects being dragged over multiple weeks like in high school. DePaul really made me feel like I was growing up from my high school self.

  1. My Professors

As I already mentioned above, my professor for Asian Food & Foodways was great. This applies to my other classes as well. I feel like DePaul has a great number of professors that help me feel like I can ask for help and learn to the best of my ability.

  1. Events

I have really enjoyed how many events DePaul has because no matter what major or interests you have, DePaul University will have it. All the events I have gone to have been very informative and give really great advice sometimes on living the college life. While they were all virtual, I could tell that DePaul really wants to include all students.

  1. Library Resources

During this quarter, I have been preparing to finish a research paper for two of my classes. The library’s databases and research guides have helped me so much because the information I need is consolidated, meaning I do not have to look all over the internet to find my answers.

  1. Writing Center

The Writing Center is great because they offer feedback on your papers. This is so important because most people I know would not have time to provide feedback for an essay so having an extra person to see the paper other than my professor is very helpful.

  1. Students at DePaul

Based on my classes and extracurriculars, there are many DePaul students that have great personalities. From people that can make you laugh or those who can be very insightful, you can find people you can relate to here.

  1. DePaul Support

Support such as DePaul Central and DePaul Housing answers all the questions about financial things involving DePaul. They have really assured my uncertainties when starting, and I would not have known certain things without their help.

  1. Location

I was planning to live on campus this quarter, but unfortunately, I did not because of the COVID-19 pandemic. However, I have spent lots of time in Chicago in the past and visited the DePaul campus, and I really love the city. Because of my Explore Chicago class, I also learned all the great places that I cannot wait to visit next year!

  1. Workload

The last thing I enjoyed was the workload. I felt like it was not so stressful, but at the same time, it offered me more knowledge and information in shorter amounts of time. I really enjoyed learning this quarter, and most of it has stuck in my brain.
