St. Norbert School, a progressive, child-centered Catholic school is accepting applications for a school guidance counselor, for the 2021-2022 school year and beyond. The position will be from January 5, 2022 until the end of the school year. This staff position supports the mission of the Catholic school by planning, guiding, and evaluating the learning process of the students at St. Norbert School.

The successful candidate will provide a stimulating, safe, and developmentally appropriate educational environment where children have the opportunity to build cognitive, social, emotional, and physical skills. Candidate will provide unit and lesson plan by which classes are conducted.
Candidate must be an enthusiastic, professional, dependable, warm, kind, innovative individual who preferably has experience and qualifications per the State of Illinois to work with children in an elementary school setting.
Qualifications
- School Counselor License or Professional Counselor License preferred
- Experience counseling in urban and/or diverse communities
- Deep belief in the potential of all children and the values of Catholic education

- Excellent organizational, communication, and facilitation skills

Responsibilities
- Immerse yourself in our diverse parish and neighborhood communities and grow in your own faith through regular school activities
- The school guidance counselor will assist students in our K-8 school setting as an advocate for the development of the whole child
- They will provide direct counseling services that support the academic, social, and emotional developmental needs of the students while bringing a collaborative, solutions-oriented attitude to our team
- This work will be data-driven by identifying individual school needs and outcomes in the areas of academics, attendance and behavior
- Provide direct services to students in the areas of child and adolescent development, education strategies, self-management, and social interaction skills to help students in achieving success in school
- Support students in mentally processing their challenges and/or adjustments to school through goal setting and action planning
- Contact and stay connected to parents to assist them in the understanding of and constructive participation in their child’s progress
- Build and maintain comprehensive, school-wide preventative needs programming
- Consult with other school personnel in gathering and sharing appropriate information, as well as to establish staff roles and responsibilities regarding student needs beyond general academic education
- Keep appropriate records of cases for use by school staff members and non-school reporting agencies
- Prepare and submit timely reports on students referred for evaluation
