Dear Counselor Educators and School Counselors-in-training,
Greetings! My name is Eunji Park, and I am a doctoral candidate in the Counseling and Counselor Education program at Syracuse University. Under the guidance of my dissertation chair, Melissa M Luke, I am conducting a dissertation study that aims to explore relational and cultural aspects of school counselors-in-training’ supervision experiences in the United States. This study has been approved by the Syracuse University Institutional Review Board (IRB# 25-423), and I am inviting you to consider participating in this research.
To participate in this study, you must be:
- 18 years of age or older
- currently enrolled in a CACREP-accredited school counseling program
- actively engaged in practicum or internship in a pK-12 school setting at the time of the study
- currently receiving individual and/or triadic supervision from university supervisors (i.e., core program faculty / doctoral student /adjunct or part-time instructor) and/or from a site supervisor.
If you agree to participate, you will be asked to complete a questionnaire composed of six distinct sections. The six sections will ask you about the following topics: demographic information about you and your supervisor, your supervisor’s supervisory style, the supervisory working alliance, power dynamics in supervision, your perceptions of your supervisor’s cultural humility, and your confidence in working with culturally diverse students. The survey’s estimated time of completion is 20-25 minutes. The completion of this instrument will be the only request made of you.
The results and participant de-identified data will be used in this study and subsequent presentations and/or publications. Furthermore, Internet Protocol (IP) address collection will be disabled to ensure survey responses remain anonymous. All data will be collected and stored through Qualtrics. Password protection ensures that only authorized researchers will have access to the online database of survey responses. Data will be stored electronically and destroyed five years following the completion of the research. A summary of results can be shared after the completion of the study per request at epark12@syr.edu.
You are under no obligation to participate in this study. You are free to withdraw your consent to participate at any time. You will not be required to do anything in order to withdraw from the study, other than closing out of the survey. Participation in this study poses no risks greater than those encountered in your day-to-day life.
A total of 30 $20 Amazon electronic gift cards will be randomly awarded to participants who complete the questionnaire and provide a valid email address. Please note that email addresses provided for the incentive purpose will be recorded in a separate file from the survey responses. No identifiable data will be revealed through your responses to the survey.
