Upcoming Mental Health First Aid Trainings

According to MHFA, “Youth Mental Health First Aid is an early intervention public education program. It teaches adults how to recognize the signs and symptoms that suggest a potential mental health challenge, how to listen nonjudgmentally and give reassurance to a youth who may be experiencing a mental health challenge, and how to refer a person to appropriate professional support and services.”

According to MHFA, Mental Health First Aid for Adults teaches people how to recognize signs of mental health or substance use challenges in adults ages 18 and older, how to offer and provide initial help, and how to guide a person toward appropriate care if necessary. Topics covered include anxiety, depression, psychosis, and addictions.”

Classes for are for adults (18+) for YMFHA will be offered from the below dates and following times 9 AM-5 PM or 9-5:30PM pending curriculum. This course is valued at $170 per learner. Thanks to the Mental Health First Aid Training SAMHSA Grant, learners may attend at no charge.

Internship Opportunity- Josselyn Center

Josselyn Center is now accepting applications for the 2024-2025 internship year. As a part of the internship experience, Josselyn Center offers interns one hour of individual supervision, one hour of clinical group supervision, and one hour of administrative supervision every week, in addition to the open case consultation groups and CEU programs. Josselyn Center has offices in Northfield, Highland Park, Waukegan, and Grayslake. Interns will receive the same supervision and training in all locations.

Internship Opportunity- Communities In Schools of Chicago

Communities In Schools of Chicago is beginning the internship application process for the 2024-25 academic year.  They have scheduled their candidate group interview for Wednesday morning, March 6 from 9:00 a.m. -12:00 noon.  This will take place at their central office at 815 W. Van Buren Street, Suite 300, Chicago, IL  60607.  As in years past, they will use this time to introduce their work and the role of the intern, engage in activities that include case reviews and group discussions, explain next steps, and answer any questions that candidates may have.

This opportunity is for students interns especially interested in learning about Social Emotional Learning and Integrated Student Supports in schools. Interested students can send a current resume and letter of interest to Paul Fagen at pfagen@cisofchicago.org. In the letter of interest interested students should highlight: their interest in the work of Communities In Schools of Chicago, why they want to train with the organization, and what they hope to learn. Someone from Communities In Schools of Chicago will follow up with candidates directly to confirm their attendance at the group interview.

Internship Opportunity- DePaul University Counseling & Psychological Services (UCAPS)

DePaul University Counseling & Psychological Services (UCAPS) will soon be accepting internship applications for the 24-25 year. Interested students can navigate to the application portal on the DePaul UCAPS website to submit their application materials. The DePaul UCAPS application portal will open on January 12th and close on February 9th.
