Psychotherapist Positions
About Smart Love
We are a not for profit, outpatient counseling agency led by genuinely committed clinicians who provide high-quality mental health services and receive ongoing professional training and consultation no matter their experience level. We use an innovative, optimistic relational psychotherapy approach that produces better clinicians and therapists who enjoy greater fulfillment in the caregiving they provide. Our objective is to make our training more available to clinicians so that we can increase access to high-quality mental health care to those in need.
We are seeking Illinois licensed therapists for full-time (30 hours per week), hybrid (Telehealth and in person) therapist positions for our Oak Park and Logan Square offices. We strongly encourage applicants from diverse backgrounds to apply, as Smart Love believes that differences enable us to be a better team and impact our communities and the world in meaningful ways.
- Primarily provide psychotherapy to children, adolescents, and adults of all ages from diverse backgrounds, using Intrapsychic Humanism (IH).
- Intrapsychic Humanism is a contemporary psychodynamic theory that provides a powerful and unique understanding of what causes unhappiness and internal barriers to self-care that are common for many. It offers an optimistic psychotherapy approach that emphasizes the availability of the therapeutic relationship to help clients regain their inborn desire for genuine pleasure and capacity for core self-worth leading to improvements in self-care, relationships, and potential in school or work.
- Provide parent guidance using the Smart Love® parenting model, preferably in a Spanish-speaking, bilingual setting
- Smart Love looks beyond behavior and understands children’s primary emotional needs to feel loved and loveable, and the importance of responding kindly and positively to children’s immaturity and difficult behaviors, not punitively, since children learn to treat themselves and others by copying the care they receive.
- Additional opportunities to provide couple, family and group psychotherapy, psychological testing, and parent education seminars/webinars.
- Offer group program services to families of racially diverse backgrounds through our It Takes a Village Program.
