We hope that you are all doing well. Our names are Dr. Timothy “T.J.” Schoonover, Dr. Yenitza Guzman, and Christy Tran and we are inviting you to participate in a research study entitled The Experiences of School Counselors-in-Training Learning Anti-Racist Practices: A Phenomenological Study.
This study will examine how school counselors learn about anti-racist practices in their graduate program and what anti-practices they learn, as well as the experiences within their graduate program. This study is approved by the Institutional Review Board at Northern Illinois University with IRB Protocol # HS23-0462
To participate in this study, you must meet the following criteria:
- Must be 18 years of age or above to consent.
- Must be a school counselor in training
- Completed a minimum of nine graduate-level course credits from a counselor training program.
- Agree to record interviews.
- The capacity and willingness to contribute to this study.
- Assurance that sufficient time will be dedicated to the interview rounds.
- Ability to access the Internet and email.

Your completion of these documents does not guarantee you as a participant in this study. After completion of the survey, you will be contacted by a member of the research team to schedule an interview.
Participation is voluntary and will require approximately 75 minutes to complete the following:
a) Qualtrics survey
b) Initial qualitative interview
c) Follow-up qualitative interview
After completion of the follow-up interview participants will be sent a $10 eGift card to Amazon.
