Adult Mental Health First Aid Classes at C4!

According to MHFA, Mental Health First Aid for Adults teaches people how to recognize signs of mental health or substance use challenges in adults ages 18 and older, how to offer and provide initial help, and how to guide a person toward appropriate care if necessary. Topics covered include anxiety, depression, psychosis, and addictions.

Classes for adults (18+) for AMFHA will be offered from TBD dates 8.5hr-9hr day (7.5hr curriculum). This course is valued at $170 per learner. Thanks to the Mental Health First Aid Training SAMHSA Grant, learners may attend at no charge.

About Smart Love

We are a not for profit, outpatient counseling agency led by genuinely committed clinicians who provide high-quality mental health services and receive ongoing professional training and consultation no matter their experience level. We use an innovative, optimistic relational psychotherapy approach that produces better clinicians and therapists who enjoy greater fulfillment in the caregiving they provide. Our objective is to make our training more available to clinicians so that we can increase access to high-quality mental health care to those in need.

 

We are seeking Illinois licensed therapists for full-time (30 hours per week), hybrid (Telehealth and in person)  therapist positions for our Oak Park and Logan Square offices.   • Primarily provide psychotherapy to children, adolescents, and adults of all ages from diverse backgrounds, using Intrapsychic Humanism (IH).
    • Intrapsychic Humanism is a contemporary psychodynamic theory that provides a powerful and unique understanding of what causes unhappiness and internal barriers to self-care that are common for many. It offers an optimistic psychotherapy approach that emphasizes the availability of the therapeutic relationship to help clients regain their inborn desire for genuine pleasure and capacity for core self-worth leading to improvements in self-care, relationships, and potential in school or work.
  • Provide parent guidance using the Smart Love® parenting model, preferably in a Spanish-speaking, bilingual setting
    • Smart Love looks beyond behavior and understands children’s primary emotional needs to feel loved and loveable, and the importance of responding kindly and positively to children’s immaturity and difficult behaviors, not punitively, since children learn to treat themselves and others by copying the care they receive.
  • Additional opportunities to provide couple, family and group psychotherapy, psychological testing, and parent education seminars/webinars.
  • Offer group program services to families of racially diverse backgrounds through our It Takes a Village Program.

 

Requirements:

  • Licensed as a Clinical Psychologist, LSW/LCSW or LPC/LCPC in IL
  • Values providing long-term psychotherapy and relationship-based psychotherapy
  • Flexible schedule to fulfill some required evening hours
  • Enjoys learning and ongoing supervision/consultation regardless of experience level
  • Desire to work as part of a team, particularly for community outreach and impact projects
  • Ability to form and maintain relationships and to model and encourage positive collaborative behaviors

 

Payment Structure:

  • For fully-licensed therapists: Fee for service model (paid 50% of collections plus quarterly bonus for billing over 20 client hours per week)
  • For LPC or LSW therapists working towards full licensure: Full time fellowship that offers a 12 month competitive stipend (starting at $50,000)

Fellowship Benefits Only:

Participants Needed! Anti-Racist Practices Study

We hope that you are all doing well. Our names are Dr. Timothy “T.J.” Schoonover, Dr. Yenitza Guzman, and Christy Tran and we are inviting you to participate in a research study entitled The Experiences of School Counselors-in-Training Learning Anti-Racist Practices: A Phenomenological Study.

This study will examine how school counselors learn about anti-racist practices in their graduate program and what anti-practices they learn, as well as the experiences within their graduate program. This study is approved by the Institutional Review Board at Northern Illinois University with IRB Protocol # HS23-0462

To participate in this study, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Must be 18 years of age or above to consent.
  • Must be a school counselor in training
  • Completed a minimum of nine graduate-level course credits from a counselor training program.
  • Agree to record interviews.
  • The capacity and willingness to contribute to this study.
  • Assurance that sufficient time will be dedicated to the interview rounds.
  • Ability to access the Internet and email.

Your completion of these documents does not guarantee you as a participant in this study. After completion of the survey, you will be contacted by a member of the research team to schedule an interview.

Participation is voluntary and will require approximately 75 minutes to complete the following:

a) Qualtrics survey

b) Initial qualitative interview

c) Follow-up qualitative interview

After completion of the follow-up interview participants will be sent a $10 eGift card to Amazon.

Application Open – ISCA Conference Ambassadors

The Illinois School Counselor Association Conference Committee is recruiting ambassadors for its upcoming conference on November 9 & 10, 2023. Conference Ambassador will help with tasks during the conference (e.g., helping with registration, supporting breakout rooms, etc.). Ambassadors must be current school counselor graduate students. Ambassadors who are chosen will receive a conference registration link for the reduced fee of $50 for the full conference.
