Minds Matter Chicago is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to transform the lives of accomplished high school students from low-income families by broadening their dreams and preparing them for college success. The organization’s innovative program model fosters success for students by assigning two young professional mentors for each mentee. During students’ sophomore through senior years of high school, they participate in Saturday sessions with their mentors, SAT test preparation and writing instruction, and attend fully-funded academic and leadership summer programs. Ultimately mentees are supported in applying to colleges, scholarships, and completing financial aid processes.

Founded in New York City in 1991, Minds Matter is a national organization headquartered in New York City with chapters in Boston, Cleveland, Chicago, Denver, Los Angeles, Minneapolis, New York, Philadelphia, Portland, San Francisco, and Seattle. Minds Matter Chicago was founded in 2006, and currently serves around 65 students with over 200 volunteers.

Job Opportunity – Latin School of Chicago

Job Summary

The Lower School Readiness Assessor, in collaboration with the Lower School Associate Director of Enrollment Management, will assess the readiness of applicants for admission to the Lower School of Latin School of Chicago.

  • This is a part-time (mornings only), six-month per year position from approximately October through March each year (excluding school breaks).
  • This position requires frequent local travel during the working period.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Conduct one-to-one readiness assessments with children between the ages of 3 and 9 applying to Latin’s Lower School (Junior Kindergarten through 4th Grade)
  • Compile assessment summaries for the consideration of Latin’s lower school admissions committee
  • Provide feedback on assessment performance to the parents/guardians of lower school applicants
  • Schedule and conduct child observations at preschools, nursery schools and elementary schools across the Chicagoland area
  • Assist the Lower School Associate Director of Enrollment Management with the JK-4 application process as needed
  • Review all lower school applications and serve on the lower school admissions committee
  • Perform other duties as assigned or needed

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree or doctoral training with an early childhood or child development focus preferred.
  • Admissions/enrollment management experience preferably in the independent school sector
  • Experience working with young children and families, ideally in a school environment
  • Ability to administer developmental assessments to early childhood and elementary-aged children
  • Experience administering the WPPSI or WISC assessments or other evaluative tools
  • Ability to handle highly confidential admission and assessment materials effectively and with appropriate care
  • Excellent written and communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Energy, enthusiasm, friendliness and a sense of humor
  • Very good computer proficiency, ideally with experience using enrollment management databases
  • Spanish language proficiency is a plus
  • Ability to travel throughout Chicagoland to other educational institutions

Job Opportunity – BGF Children’s Therapy

BGF Children’s Therapy provides in-home and center-based behavior therapy for children diagnosed with Autism. They are searching for individuals to work one on one with the children during this summer and into Fall 2023. Ideal candidates are working on their Bachelor’s or Master’s in a related field and have some experience with children. They train staff in behavior analytic principles and the skills necessary to work with children diagnosed with Autism. BGF Children’s Therapy have hired students from DePaul in the past and have been very happy with their work and dedication. Hourly rates range from $20-$25, depending on experience.
