Job Opportunity – East-West University

East-West is a small private university with only 500 students; it was formed 45 years ago and since then expanded its campus to three buildings on Michigan Ave. and Wabash Ave. Our students largely come from urban low income backgrounds, and all our faculty are dedicated to helping such students achieve social mobility and overcome their obstacles. We admire East-West students for their resilience and strength.

The Director of Counseling and Student Affairs will be responsible for helping students stay in school, graduate on time, and have a college experience they deserve.  Specifically, some of the following is important: SAP monitoring (satisfactory academic progress), contacting students who have difficulties, help with registration, interface with the Student Success Center (therapists) , mentoring program, resume help and job search help, events (Dance, National [fill in the blank] month, Intercultural day, etc.), support the basketball team, and other retention-related activities.

Qualifications:

1. Organizational skills: ability to create a plan and spearhead its implementation.  Track record is important, preferably in student services (e.g. creating a mentoring program, or creating a career help center, or creating a high school to college transition help, etc.); the track record may be in a related area, since developing a working program is a transferable skill.

2. We will consider a fresh graduate if the candidate has a track record of working with students

3. Ability to direct a small staff (so far only 1 counselor and one student worker, but we expect this department to grow).

4. The person should genuinely care about students, and be able to work with students needs and wants
