New Research Opportunity

Researchers at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro, University of Detroit Mercy, and University of Nevada, Las Vegas, are conducting a research study entitled “A Path Analysis of Cultural Humility Between Multicultural Awareness, Knowledge, and Skills and Social Issues Advocacy among Master’s Counseling Students”. For the purpose of the study, they intend to explore the extent to which cultural humility mediates the relationship between multicultural knowledge, attitudes and beliefs, skills and social issues advocacy.

 To be eligible for this study, you must identify with the following inclusion criteria:

  • Must be 18 years or older
  • Must be currently enrolled in a CACREP-accredited Master’s program in counseling or counselor education
  • Must have completed a multicultural counseling course
  • Must be currently enrolled in practicum or internship

If you choose to take part in this study, you will take part in a Qualtrics survey of approximately 15-25 minutes. In the following link, you will be able to view the electronic informed consent and proceed to the survey questions once you confirm review of the informed consent.

To compensate you for your time, you may elect to enter a drawing for a $25 gift card by entering your email address at the end of the survey. A total of 15 participants will be selected randomly to receive the incentive.

Job Opportunity – Intake Coordinator

The intake coordinator conducts initial screenings of patients to determine mental health needs and establish care requirements. May assign patients to mental health practitioners based on intake assessments.

Duties:

  • Pre-screen patients

  • Obtain Demographics, Primary Concern, Service Seeking, History

  • Recommend appropriate provider per concern/history

  • Pre-register patients in an EHR system

  • Schedule the initial intake appointment.

  • Send intakes to the appropriate person to start the registration process.

Job Requirements:

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

  • Consideration given to individuals working toward Behavioral Health degrees ( PsyD, Ph.D., LPC, LCSW, LSW)

  • Part Time with Flexible Hours

  • Hybrid Position

Job Summary: The Director of Education will be responsible for taking organizational goals and defining the strategies, and methods that will result in meeting set goals.

Strategies and methods will include designing, planning, training, and overseeing the implementation of academic & educational programs and activities for youth in kindergarten through 12th grade resulting in academic progression and next grade level readiness.

The Director of Education is a member of the program team and will work at sites at least 50% of the time coaching and mentoring program coordinators and program assistants to ensure long term academic success for our members.

Voluntary Research Study about Authentic Self-Functioning through Kent State University

Kent State University is offering an opportunity to participate in a voluntary research study about authentic self-functioning, self-compassion, and burnout. This study is being conducted by Dr. Joshua Castleberry at Kent State University and Dr. Michael Leeman at Southeastern Louisiana University.

Participants will be asked to do the following: Participate in an online survey by completing several measures.  Overall, they hope to gain information about how authenticity relates to burnout.

The Purpose of the study is to explore how authenticity, self-compassion and rumination may be related to burnout and well-being.  Participants are invited to take part in this study if you meet the following criteria:

  1. 18 years or older
  2. Currently enrolled in a CACREP accredited master’s counselor training program

Winter Course Registration Begins THIS Week

Greeting Counseling students,

 

Winter registration starts this week and next week. Registration days and times are individualized, largely based on credit hours earned. To view your specific “registration appointment,” log on to Campus Connect and select Manage Classes. There is nothing you need to attend for this “appointment,” it only identifies the day and time registration access begins. Academic Advisors are available should you need assistance.

Please register as soon as your appointment time is available. Also please register into open sections of your classes, but refrain from adding yourself to multiple wait lists for the same course, to allow other students to enroll.

Please do not contact professors requesting to be enrolled into their courses for Winter. Please contact the Department assistant with any request to change sections.

Remember, the last day to add a class for the Winter quarter is January 8th, 2023.

The ASCA Ethical Standards for School Counselors specifies the obligation to the principles of ethical behavior necessary to maintain the high standards of integrity, leadership, and professionalism. The 2022 standards were updated to clarify the norms, values, and beliefs of the profession. Learn about the key updates to the standards, how these impact your work, and how to use the standards to advocate for your roles and responsibilities. 

Participants will earn 1 hour of Professional Development Credit.

Objectives:

  • Highlight the most substantial changes to the 2022 ASCA Ethical Standards for School Counselors
  • Explain how these updates might impact your work as a school counselors
  • Highlight ways to inform staff, administration, and parents of your ethical responsibilities.

Dr. Haley Wikoff is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Counselor Education and College Student Personnel at Western Illinois University. Prior to joining the faculty at WIU, Dr. Wikoff worked as an elementary and middle school counselor for 14 years. . She is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) in the State of Illinois, a National Certified Counselor (NCC) and holds licensure as a teacher and professional school counselor in the state of Iowa. Dr. Wikoff’s research interests are largely formed from her experiences as a school counselor including the ethical decision making of school counselors, school counselor advocacy for LGBTQ youth, and creating inclusive, and welcoming school environments for LGBTQ families. She has published and presented at the state, regional, and national level on these topics. Recently Dr. Wikoff was named as the co-chair of the ASCA Ethics Committee and she looks forward to working with school counselors across the U.S. on ethical decision making.
