Hello DePaul Counseling Students,
The DePaul Counseling Program has an exciting opportunity to collaborate with the Muslim Women Resource Center (MWRC). The MWRC is supporting Afghan refugees through their New Arrival Wellness and Integration program. This program provides services to Afghan men, women, children, and families. The purpose of this program is to provide mental health support to Afghan refugees who have experienced generational trauma, grief and loss, economic hardship and more as a result of decades of occupation and war.
The MWRC is interested in having DePaul students run mental groups with Afghan families, children, men, and women. In addition, the MWRC is interested in having DePaul students develop mental health resources and supports. A representative from the MWRC will be hosting a virtual infosession on Friday January 28th, 2022 from 1 pm-2:30 pm in order to share more about how you can get involved and serve this community. This meeting will be via zoom and will be recorded:
Join from PC, Mac, Linux, iOS or Android: https://depaul.zoom.us/j/9204190983
There are various opportunities available to get involved ranging from leading/co-leading groups to developing mental health programming. This opportunity is open to all counseling students. However, gaining experience with trauma-informed care by leading/co-leading groups is only open to second and third-year students.
