Conference: “Transcending the Binary: Creating Affirming Spaces for our Trans Communities”

Join the Illinois Safe Schools Alliance on Friday, October 29 from 10am-2pm for our virtual Fall Conference, Transcending the Binary: Creating Affirming Spaces for our Trans Communities.

We cannot wait to share with you the keynote address by Myrl Beam, Assistant Professor of Gender, Sexuality, and Women’s Studies at Virginia Commonwealth University, on The Tretter Transgender Oral History Project. Myrl will explore the history and current landscape of gender-expansive communities.

We are also happy to offer you the opportunity to choose between three of our signature Professional Development workshops:

  • Meaningful Youth-Adult Partnership: Using Action Camp as a Case Study, led by Action Camp Leaders
  • Creating Affirming Environments, presented by Ruthie Moore, PHIMC Education and Training Manager

Bereavement Training Opportunity 11/12

Bridgepoint Psychology Center, will be offering a 6 continuing credit hour course titled “Effective Therapy for Bereavement, Grief, and Loss in Adults” (see flyer attached) led by Dr. Henning who has 15+ years of experience in providing graduate-level teaching and professional training in effective, research-informed approaches for clients coping with traumatic stress, death and dying, life-threatening illness, bereavement, and loss. This training will also emphasize loss due to Covid-19.

Taking the NCE in Spring 2022?

Are you preparing to sit for the NCE in spring of 2022? The DePaul counseling program is preparing to submit the roster of eligible students. Please visit the D2L CSL Repository 2020 page for details on how to register. The following Google Form (https://forms.gle/XWpPsXjp3yATDcGt8) must be completed by Friday, October 22, 2021, 5:00 pm.

If you are not a member of this page but are planning to sit for the exam in the spring, please contact Anna Siewers (asiewers@depaul.edu) for more information ASAP.

As a reminder, NCE-eligible students are typically 3rd year students currently enrolled practicum/internship and must be on track to complete 72 quarter hours/fulfill all coursework requirements for the NCC at the time of the exam (at DePaul, this means all CMHC students and SC+CCSA students who have opted to take the necessary extra courses).

Additionally, if students choose to register on their own instead of through DePaul’s roster, they will not be able to take the exam until AFTER they graduate and the cost is $375, as opposed to taking the exam before graduating at a cost of $335.

Hello Third-Year School Counseling Students, Nora Murphy will be doing a 235 test prep on Tuesday October 26th at 4pm. As a reminder the 235 exam is the school counseling licensure exam in IL.
